Hello, my stressed-out and tired moms. I'm over-caffeinated, dry-shampooed, and ready to overshare.
This week we are going to tap into routines. Just like adults, children feel more confident and secure when their daily activities are predictable and familiar. A consistent daily schedule and step-by-step routines give children a predictable day. Routines are important for children because they help them learn and grow. Routines can help children:
Feel safe and secure
Develop life skills
Build healthy habits
Learn what is expected of them
Develop social skills
Feel connected to their family
Develop self-regulation skills
Develop positive patterns
Routines can also help parents feel organized, reduce stress, and find time for enjoyable activities.
Anticipating what will happen next
Teaching responsibility and independence
Boosting confidence
Building self-confidence, curiosity, social skills, self-control, and communication skills
Establishing expectations
Creating a calmer household
Developing healthy, constructive habits
Developing a sense of family identity
Each family's routines are unique to them, we love to use smart devices like Amazon Dot and Apple Home pod to create automation to help us with gentle reminders at specific times to stay on track.

The preschool schedule is all the same as above except it goes half a day so 10: 45 is the After School routine then follows the same schedule as the toddler.
Toddler schedule wakes up after siblings go to school. Eats breakfast, dresses, and hearing aids put in. We try to schedule all his appointments and specials before preschool is out to give him attention. Pick up brother, eat lunch, and screen time for the boys. Afternoon activity (reading a book, arts and crafts, sometimes errands). Take a nap for 2-3 hours. Then follow the school schedule with older kids.
I hope this helps you out. Routines and habits with kids make life less stressful. Especially for someone with special needs kids, the documentation is out there ADHD and Asperger's children benefit from a schedule and a routine so they know what is going to happen when.
